Within the EcoJustice Africa initiative, Green Growth Africa (with support from the World Wide Fund for Nature, WWF) is instituting the EcoJustice Fellowship to support and train environmental activists, CSO leaders, and journalists, as “EcoFellows” in two streams (Field and Media).
The inaugural cohort of the fellowship is being named in honor of Nigeria’s former President, His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo for his support for green growth in Africa. H.E. Chief Olusegun Obasanjo proposed the Great Green Wall initiative, an African Union initiative that is aimed at restoring 100 hectares of degraded land; sequestering 250 million tons of carbon, and creating 10 million green jobs by 2030. The ‘wall’, which is now being implemented in 22 African countries, seeks to restore Africa’s degraded landscape transform millions of lives in the Sahel, and revitalise thousands of communities across the continent.
