Ladies and Gentlemen 🥳,
Welcome on board! switch on your flight mode...just kidding😂, and stay glued to your screen as we take you on the journey of our EcoHeroes team from Best Intellectual Schools, Aba, Abia State
Did you know that the aviation industry accounts for 2.5% of global carbon emissions, with 99% of flights releasing harmful pollutants into the atmosphere? To combat this, the industry is transitioning to sustainable aviation fuels, improving fuel efficiency, and exploring electric options.
Inspired by this need for change, a group of innovative students took matters into their own hands. They constructed an airplane from trash, powered by solar energy! Here's how they did it:
- Step 1: Collected TV plastic waste
- Step 2: Built a furnace to cut out airplane parts
- Step 3: Cut rectangular shapes from plastics using heated rods
- Step 4: Assembled the plastic parts to build a 5-foot airplane (45kg)
- Step 5: Smoothened and painted the airplane
- Step 6: Attached chain wheels and battery
This project aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):
- SDG 7: Affordable and Clean Energy
- SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- SDG 13: Climate Action
